YOU MATTER TO GOD
AND YOU MATTER TO US
First Baptist Church is a safe place to explore your faith. We are people who genuinely care about you. In fact, we are people just like you who share a bold hope for life's journey. We live and work in Keokuk and the surrounding towns. You meet us in stores and see us on the streets. Like you, we care about our community and desire to meet you and your family.
FBC has a great strength in our people. They are solid, salt-of-the-earth folks just like you. Our church, maybe now your church, comes out of the heritage of the American Baptist Churches denomination. We believe the Bible to be the inerrant Word of God and that Christ died on the cross to wipe-out our sins. Join us and feel the warmth and care for your family and your needs. Also, don't be afraid to ask questions. Answering questions about individual faith journeys is what we're all about.

We all find our way into new places from time to time. It always helps if you know what to expect. First of all, we are not concerned with how you are dressed. You'll find people in jeans and men in suits. You matter to God, not your clothes.
If you have children, our age graded classes start at 9 am in our educational building. We have a children's service during our 10:20 am service. Many of the children start in the 10:20 am service then move to our Children's church after the Kid Konnection time in the service.
Our music is a blend of upbeat praise songs, contemporary vocals and a few traditional hymns. Our pastor, Tim Ayers, is an author and cartoonist. His upbeat messages are always encouraging and the relevant topics are what we need for living in today's world.
As you can see, we are more concerned about you. You matter to God, and you matter to us.

STARTING SEPTEMBER 19, 2019
The Altar Thursday Night Early Weekend service at 6:30pm is for anyone but especially for those who can't make Sunday mornings, don't like mornings at all, work the weekends or just don't like church. It features a praise and worship set of music, Bible teaching, and an open time for us to practice the "priesthood of all believers" through prayer, readings, our artistic gifts, songs we wrote or songs we want to sing. It is a time of artistic expression. Bring the "sacrifice of praise" to the Altar of God.
Look at the pictures. We are people just like you. We are not perfect by any means. We fall down, we get up and press on. Things happen when you are on this life journey. It is always better when you don't have to do it alone.
First Baptist Church is guided by a team of Deacons. Rev. Timothy Ayers started in October of 2018 as the Interim Pastor. Rev. Dale Thomas retired the previous September. Tess Brotherton completes the office staff. Russell Brotherton keeps the facilities in working order.
Tim Ayers, Pastor
Pastor Tim has been a Youth Pastor, Connections Pastor and Senior Pastor in his past churches. He planted two churches and worked on the revitalization of several others.
When not in the church office, you will find Tim working on a new novel or hanging out with grandchildren. Tim has had 12 bestsellers and his latest release was chosen the best fiction of 2017.
Tim brings his fun spirit and imagination to his messages on Sunday morning.
Tess Brotherton, Secretary
Tess keeps the place running. Just about everything you touch or see, Tess has her fingers in the pie. Starting out as an IT specialist she moved to secretarial work and to First Baptist Church.
Russell Brotherton, Custodian
Russ not only keeps us clean but he has the ability to fix most things that fall into disrepair around our two buildings. His vibrant and warm spirit led to his being the Head Usher on Sunday mornings.
We can't wait to hear from you
